Becky and Shaun chose Hexham Winter Gardens and WOW! what a venue. Having once played host to Hollywood greats Douglas Fairbanks Junior and Charles Laughton and leading politicians of the day including British Prime Minister Ramsey Macdonald, the Hydro is now a Grade II Listed Building. In addition to the Hydro, the private gardens are a secret oasis, locked behind imposing stone walls. Fortunately we had the key and were able to get some great shots in our allocated 20 minutes or so in them.
Pork Pie Cake
A really nice touch was the fact Becky’s Mam conducted the ceremony. From the readings to the vows the whole ceremony felt massively intimate and personal. The whole day was a relaxed affair. There was no sense of tradition, even the cake was a departure from the norm being a selection of pork pies. Vintage crockery and table settings gave the whole day a unique feel too.
What was really nice about this wedding was that there was no ‘sit down’ 3 course meal. Cakes, sausage rolls and sandwiches were all brought to the tables on vintage cake stands. Served in old jam jars, the drinks flowed and Tunnocks tea cakes were in abundance. The informality and English tea party theme was something I haven’t come across before and it fitted in nicely with the old Victorian former glasshouse which housed the couple’s reception
